Purpose:

Lead the instrumentation design team on assigned projects or project phases, providing technical direction, work planning, and design coordination from concept through construction support.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, review, and check instrumentation deliverables including instrument location plans, installation details, loop diagrams, wiring and termination diagrams, junction box schedules, I/O lists, panel layouts, cable tray/conduit routing, and construction work packages.
  • Ensure discipline deliverables meet technical quality, accuracy, safety, constructability, client specifications, Worley standards, and applicable industry codes and practices.
  • Coordinate closely with engineering, project management, piping, electrical, civil/structural, process, procurement, vendors, clients, and workshare teams to support integrated project delivery.
  • Perform discipline administrative responsibilities including developing and monitoring manpower plans, schedules, budgets, progress reporting, design requirements, drafting data, and workshare packages.
  • Provide design sketches, technical guidance, and practical design solutions for drawing and model preparation by designers and CAD technicians.
  • Review and resolve 3D model interferences and clashes related to instrument locations, supports, cable tray, conduit routing, equipment access, and discipline interfaces.
  • Check work prepared by lower-level designers and CAD technicians for compliance with project requirements, customer standards, Worley procedures, and discipline best practices.
  • Mentor and support the development of junior designers and CAD technicians, including providing technical coaching and input on performance and development needs.
  • Plan and conduct field investigations, site walkdowns, data gathering, and as-built verification at customer facilities as required.

What you will bring

Technical/Industry Experience and Qualifications Requirements:

  • Typically 12+ years of instrumentation design experience, preferably supporting oil and gas, refining, chemical, petrochemical, energy, or heavy industrial projects.
  • Strong experience leading instrumentation design work on complex multi-discipline projects, including coordination of design teams, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Smart Plant Instrumentation/SPI is required; experience with Micro Station and 3D modeling tools such as Smart 3D, E3D, PDMS, or Navisworks is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of instrumentation design deliverables, industry codes and standards, construction practices, field verification, and plant safety requirements.
  • Experience with instrument indexes, I/O lists, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, junction box schedules, instrument installation details, material take-offs, and construction packages.
