GEC’s Civil Engineering Group has an open position for a Pre-Professional Civil Intern focused on developing a career as a technical expert. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who strives to learn from other professionals and develop himself orherself on a career level. The selected candidate will receive one-on-one training from engineers of various disciplines as well as from their immediate supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Working towards a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering (from an ABET-accredited program).
- Thedesire to obtain a Louisiana Engineering Licensing Board (LAPELS) certification as an Engineer Intern (EI)
- Possess strong written, oral, and computer skills, including thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs, notably Excel and Word
- Musthave the ability to work within the United States
- Must possess a valid driver’s license; driving or the ability to perform off-sitework is a job requirement
- This position requires successfully navigating existing installations and construction sites. Accessing field components may involve the use ofstairwells, ladders, aerial lifts, safety harnesses, etc.
- Abilityto work independently, maintain a positive attitude, and work well with coworkers, all levels of management, and clients
- Thefuture desire to provide engineering and technical support within the Civil Engineering Department through services such as departmental development,detailed project planning, front-end engineering and detailed design, opinionof construction cost, and technical construction engineering and inspection fora variety of electrical projects
- Background in CADD software
- Advanced computer skills/knowledge including, but not limited to programming and modeling
- Abilityto read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations
- Abilityto write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Abilityto effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
- Abilityto define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Experience using computer-assisted engineering design software, specifically AutoCAD orMicro Station
