Minimum Qualifications- Two years of experience in law‑enforcement work.
- Valid 2100‑PSE (Protective Services Exam) passing score.
- Current P.O.S.T. (Police Officer Skills Test) certification and a copy of the completed certificate.
- College training may substitute for experience up to 30 semester hours for one year of experience.
- Must be at least 18 years old at time of appointment.
- Must not have a felony conviction or be under indictment on a felony charge without relief.
- Valid Louisiana driver’s license may be required.
- Annual firearm qualification may be required.
- Eligibility for bond may be required.
- Provide full police services: enforcement, investigation, emergency response, and crime prevention.
- Assist in overseeing full police services on an assigned shift (assistant shift supervisor).
- Differences from Police Officer 2-A, 3 and Sergeant‑A: more complex investigations, intelligence gathering, and surveillance; no supervisory responsibility.
- Works statewide; may serve on hazardous materials or crisis response teams.
- Work flex shift covering morning and evening shifts.
- Protect lives and property through active patrols, defensive tactics, and proper equipment use.
- Qualify yearly at the firing range, maintaining a score of 96 or better.
- Conduct investigations and collect evidence for theft, harassment, assault, and accident cases.
- Cooperate with local and state law‑enforcement agencies during emergencies and investigations.
- Enforce parking and traffic regulations and campus rules; issue tickets, lock wheelbarrows and provide assistance.
- Provide first aid and emergency assistance to faculty, staff, students, and the public.
- Maintain communication with sheriff’s office, state police, fire and ambulance services, and other agencies.
- Maintain a self‑motivated approach to unsupervised work and unplanned duties.
- Appear in court as a witness and testify on prior complaints and arrests.
