Position: Veterans Assistance Manager (Northeast Region)

About This Job

This is a promotional opportunity open only to current permanent LDVA employees. Relentlessly advocate for Louisiana veterans and their families to ensure they receive superior customer service and support by connecting them to the benefits they have earned in service to our country, while meeting the economic, educational and employment needs of transitioning service members looking to make Louisiana their home.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise all employees of the veterans contact assistance program in the region, including the New Orleans Claims Office, or administer the State's Veterans Assistance Programs.
  • Administer the State Educational Assistance Program, the State Military Bonus Program, and other applicable Veterans Assistance programs by establishing, verifying applicant eligibility and processing to completion.
  • Prepare all news releases and publish the Departmental publication, SERVO.
  • Analyze all changes in veteran laws and regulations issued by state and federal authorities; prepare and distribute technical bulletins to keep employees advised of changes.
  • Plan, organize, and implement a statewide training program for Veterans Assistance Counselors, assessing training needs, identifying resources, establishing priorities, designing/delivering training, and evaluating training results.
  • Prepare the budget for the region or area.
  • Inspect parish offices to determine compliance with policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Promote Veterans' Assistance programs by meeting and addressing organizations, civil groups and public officials.
  • Review the most complex and controversial claims submitted by subordinates.
  • Assign Veterans Assistance Counselors to parish offices to relieve absent officers.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Seven years of experience in veterans service work, administrative services, or social services; OR
  • Six years of full‑time experience in any field plus four years of experience in veterans service work, administrative services, or social services; OR
  • A bachelor’s degree plus four years of experience in veterans service work, administrative services, or social services; OR
  • A master’s degree plus three years of experience in veterans service work, administrative services, or social services.
Experience Substitution

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience toward the six years of full‑time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours, which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Other Information

Incumbent may be required to provide a DD‑214 as evidence of being an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Armed Forces who served on an active, full‑time basis.

Work Schedule:

8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday. Starting Pay: $28.79/hr (Special Entrance Rate); $2.00 work incentive pay (premium pay) upon completion of TRIPS Certification.
