The Department is seeking dependable and fair individuals to fill the role of CORRECTIONAL OFFICER. This position is vital as it is the front‑line individual who enforces custody and control of inmates in a state penal institution. An officer who is assertive and accountable can make a difference in the day‑to‑day operation of a facility working to rehabilitate individuals. This position will work closely with inmates receiving care at the University Medical Center of New Orleans.

• Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR one year of experience in any field.

• An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
• Under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations, an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.
• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
• Possession of a current driver's license.

• Four week Correctional Officer Training Academy in St. Gabriel, LA.
• Security Officer in a hospital environment.
• Work closely with inmates incarcerated in a state prison facility who are receiving care at the University Medical Center of New Orleans.
• Primarily responsible for the custody and security of inmates being treated in a hospital setting.
• Supervise and escort inmates, report and investigate suspicious activities, perform in‑depth security searches/shakedowns of inmates’ person, property, and living quarters.
• Follow direction given by upper level officers, departmental policies, and regulations.
• Will receive firearms training.

• Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probationary appointment if accepted.
• An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
