- High school diploma or GED; or
- One year of experience in any field.
Special Requirements
- Disqualified if convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or if under indictment on a felony charge until relief is granted.
- Disqualified if found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse or related conduct per PREA regulations.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must possess a current driver’s license.
- Attend Four‑week Correctional Officer Training Academy.
- Work closely with inmates in a State prison facility.
- Primarily responsible for custody and security of inmates in buildings, dorms, workshops, and fields.
- Supervise housekeeping of inmate housing areas, escort prisoners, investigate suspicious activities, conduct in‑depth security searches/shakedowns.
- Supervise inmate work crews, patrol areas, transport inmates as assigned.
- Follow direction from upper‑level officers, departmental policies, and regulations.
Appointment type may be probationary, a promotion of a permanent, classified Louisiana state employee, or a temporary appointment converting to probation if a permanent position becomes available.
- Permanent employees may be required to accept a probational appointment.
- Employees selected for a promotion may serve a trial detail before permanent promotion.
- Temporary appointments may convert to probationary appointments under the same conditions.
- Corrections Cadet → Sergeant → Sergeant‑Master → Lieutenant (up two pay levels) → Potential promotion to Captain.
