Performs duties to prepare and turn out slides for pathologist examination: slide staining and compilation and turn out in an accurate and timely manner, in accordance with standard histology practices. Must be a team‑player, maintain a cooperative attitude and support on‑going changes in a professional manner.

• Cleans and sorts all blocks in a timely manner to be cut by histotechs
• Accurately compiles slides and distributes according to chart and daily pathologist schedule
• Responsible for slide pickup throughout the shift and loading slides on automated H&E stainer
• Accepts direction and other assigned tasks from Supervisor or team lead
• Assists with organizing and maintaining block filing system
• Unpacking and stocking supplies

• Maintains daily temperature logs
• Maintains cover slipper quality contr

Must be a quick learner with good manual dexterity. Must be able to adapt to changes in work schedule with good analytical and problem solving skills, adjusting priorities as work requirements demand; must be able to perform multiple tasks correctly and simultaneously; must be able to work independently and make decisions based on good judgment; must possess excellent verbal communication skills and must be able to work well with all others.

High degree of mental alertness is required; must demonstrate good judgment in establishing priorities that allow for efficient, effective accomplishment of departmental activities that are frequently under time constraints; be able to handle multiple simultaneous activities with calm resolve; possess excellent phone etiquette and recognize problems that need to be referred and make appropriate referrals.

High school diploma, some college science preferred. One year of work experience in a medical lab preferred.
