Senior Virtual Desktop Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a remote Senior Virtual Desktop Engineer to support and enhance enterprise virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) in a government contracting environment. This role focuses on the engineering, automation, and sustainment of Citrix-based virtual desktop solutions integrated with AWS and Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM).

The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in Citrix Xen App/Xen Desktop, strong scripting and automation skills, and experience operating in controlled, compliance-driven environments. This is a senior individual contributor role requiring extensive hands-on engineering experience rather than personnel management.

• Engineer, maintain, and optimize Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (Xen App/Xen Desktop) environments
• Support enterprise VDI platforms in government or regulated environments
• Design and implement automation for VDI provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management
• Develop and maintain scripts and automation for system creation in Citrix and AWS environments
• Integrate and support VDI solutions with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) for imaging, patching, application deployment, and compliance
• Administer and troubleshoot Windows desktop and server operating systems used in virtual desktop environments
• Support hybrid architectures integrating on-premises infrastructure with AWS services
• Perform advanced troubleshooting across OS, application, virtualization, network, and storage layers
• Performance capacity and usage reporting to make recommendations for optimization and planning
• Apply security hardening, access controls, and compliance requirements aligned with government standards
• Create and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and system diagrams
• Participate in change management, patch cycles, and system sustainment activities

• Bachelor’s with 12 years of desktop engineering experience (or commensurate experience)
• 7 years of experience in virtual desktop engineering, end-user computing (EUC), or enterprise virtualization
• Strong hands-on experience with Citrix Xen App and Xen Desktop (Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops)
• Experience supporting and maintaining Net Scaler and Net Scaler Console
• Experience supporting large-scale or mission-critical VDI environments
• Strong scripting and automation skills (e.g., Power Shell, Python, Bash)
• Demonstrated experience automating system builds and configurations in Citrix and AWS
• Experience working with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM)
• Solid understanding of Windows Server and Windows Desktop operating systems
• Understanding and experience with security and certificate management
• Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, and identity services
• Familiarity with operating in government contracting or compliance-driven environments
• Familiarity of Databases and their management
• Coordinates with Tier 4 vendors as needed
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Clearance Required:
  
  Ability to maintain a Public Trust clearance

• Citrix certifications (e.g., CC-V, CC-P, CC-E or equivalent)
• AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Sys Ops Administrator)
• Experience with configuration management or desired-state tools (e.g., Ansible, DSC)
• Familiarity with STIGs, NIST, or similar government security frameworks
• Experience with Nvidia GPU enabled virtual desktop environments
