At the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), GIS Analysts play a critical role in how we plan, manage, and share transportation information across the state. This position supports DOTD’s GIS initiatives by collecting, managing, analyzing, and delivering geospatial data used by engineers, planners, leadership, and the public.

Two years of experience in using geographic information systems (GIS), using digital mapping and/or surveying technology, or in aerial photography; OR
Twelve semester hours in a computer science, GIS, or geospatial field plus one year of experience in using geographic information systems, using digital mapping and/or surveying technology, or in aerial photography; OR
A bachelor’s degree with twelve semester hours in a computer science, GIS, or geospatial field.

Job Duties- Perform GIS data entry, editing, and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC)
- Support development and maintenance of GIS databases, standards, and documentation
- Produce GIS products including maps, datasets, reports, and web-based applications
- Perform transportation-related GIS spatial analysis to support DOTD programs
- Assist with remote sensing and imagery projects (LiDAR, aerial photography, satellite imagery)
- Support GIS web services and data dissemination for internal and external users
- Assist with Linear Referencing Systems (LRS), Roads & Highways, and event data maintenance
- Participate in planning meetings to support GIS project development and delivery
- Assist with troubleshooting GIS software, data, and system issues
- Support implementation of new GIS tools, technologies, and workflows
Career Progression:
This position may be filled as GIS Analyst 1, 2, or 3 depending on qualifications and agency needs.
Appointment Type:
Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment or Detail to Special Duty.
