Position: COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER 1

Job Title

Communications Officer

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is seeking a Communications Officer to support radio, telephone, and computer operations. The officer will provide technical advice on computer-based operations and trunked radio system operations, complete necessary verification forms, monitor and diagnose system failures, and notify area agents of hazardous weather or other urgent situations.

Job Responsibilities
  • Receive and respond to informational requests by officers and agents.
  • Receive, analyze, prioritize, and respond to general public complaints and inquiries; alert the nearest officer or agent, dispatch to location, and relay the information.
  • Search, enter, modify, and delete computerized records for vehicle registrations, driver licenses, other licenses, wanted felons, missing persons, unidentified persons or bodies, stolen property, etc. in the appropriate computer database.
  • Maintain proper record‑keeping and update the desk log during communications.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Six months of experience in transmitting and receiving messages by radio or in administrative services; OR
  • Six months of training in a business or clerical‑related curriculum in a business school or technical institute; OR
  • Fifteen semester hours of college training.

Special Requirements:

All persons appointed to this job must meet the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Louisiana State Police Terminal Operator Certification Program guidelines and obtain terminal operator certification within six months of employment.

An applicant convicted of a felony or under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Position Details

Appointment Type: Job Appointment. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that the position may be converted to a Probational Appointment if funding becomes available.

Location: Enforcement Division of the Office of the Secretary, Baton Rouge, LA.

Compensation: Eligible for shift differential and additional hourly compensation in addition to the normal hourly rate, subject to available funding.

Career Progression: Position may be filled as a Communications Officer 1, 2, or 3.
