Overview
The Division of Administration/Office of Technology Services seeks a mid- to advanced-level engineer to serve within the Network Communications Services Section. This position focuses on the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of enterprise network infrastructure and associated systems, bridging network engineering and supporting infrastructure functions.
Responsibilities- Support and enhance network management, visibility, and automation systems; support network‑supporting infrastructure and platforms; develop and maintain operational procedures, standard workflows, and automation processes.
- Ensure reliability and effectiveness of tools used to manage and support the statewide network environment.
- Coordinate with network engineers, architects, incident response teams, systems teams, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure network reliability and operational awareness.
- Serve as lead administrator and subject matter expert for enterprise network management, visibility, monitoring, and automation platforms.
- Design, implement, configure, and maintain network management systems and integrations supporting enterprise operations.
- Develop automation workflows and data‑collection processes that improve operational efficiency.
- Maintain standards for telemetry, monitoring coverage, alerting accuracy, and data integrity.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations to enhance platform performance and support enterprise operational standards.
- Manage platform lifecycle, performance, availability, documentation, and adoption standards across teams.
- Support deployment, configuration, maintenance, upgrades, and lifecycle management of network services infrastructure platforms, controllers, and virtual appliances.
- Monitor system health, performance, reliability, and capacity for critical platforms.
- Establish maintenance standards and operational procedures for platform performance.
- Coordinate maintenance activities, vendor support, system changes, and troubleshooting efforts.
- Collaborate with systems and virtualization teams to support infrastructure dependencies.
- Evaluate, implement, and support tools and platforms that enhance network operations, automation, and visibility.
- Develop and maintain automation solutions that streamline processes.
- Support systems providing addressing, awareness, resource tracking, and data accuracy.
- Research emerging technologies and recommend solutions aligned with enterprise standards.
- Ensure successful integration, documentation, and support of operational tools.
- Apply Layer 1–4 networking expertise to troubleshoot and resolve network issues.
- Use monitoring, automation, and visibility platforms to identify issues and support root‑cause analysis.
- Collaborate with network engineering, operations, and incident response teams to support troubleshooting, escalation, mitigation, and decision‑making.
- Identify monitoring and alerting gaps and analyze incident trends.
- Maintain knowledge of network technologies and automation platforms.
- Develop documentation, procedures, and reference materials.
- Provide technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and training.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and training.
- Serve as technical resource and subject matter expert for supported platforms.
- Perform additional assignments, special projects, analysis, and studies.
- Five years of experience in information technology or administrative services; or six years full‑time work experience plus three years IT/administrative; or associate's degree in IT plus three years experience; or bachelor’s degree plus three years experience; or bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours in IT, computer science, engineering, mathematics, or business analytics plus two years experience; or master’s degree plus two years experience.
- Each 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university equals one year of experience toward the six‑year requirement, up to a maximum of four years.
- Certification in an approved area may substitute for the educational and/or experience requirements at the time of hire.
Appointment Type:
Promotion of a current, permanent‑status Office of Technology Services employee; a permanent status employee may be required to serve a new probationary period in lieu of promotion.
Career Progression:
The position may be filled as IT Statewide Engineer 1, 2, or 3 depending on the level of experience.
