Position Type: Temp-to-Hire
Schedule: Monday-Friday | 7:15 AM - 4:00 PM
Pay: $20-$23/hour (DOE)
Position Summary
The Waterjet Operator is primarily responsible for operating the waterjet cutting machine to cut alloy sheets and plates according to specifications, sketches, and shop travelers. This role requires technical accuracy, strong math skills, and the ability to visualize part layouts to maximize material yield and minimize waste.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret sketches, shop orders, and technical data to determine machine setup and control settings
- Create and draw all orders in the machine's CAD program
- Nest parts for cutting to maximize yield and reduce material waste
- Retrieve materials from plate racks using overhead crane, forklift, or handcart
- Inspect, measure, and properly mark each cut piece and return material (alloy, spec, heat, and size)
- Scan orders in and out; process associated paperwork including barcode tags, cycle counts, and exception reports
- Maintain waterjet machine including:
- Loading garnet
- Inspecting bellows, hoses, pumps, filters, flow meters, and pressure fittings
- Repairing minor leaks
- Cleaning cutting heads to prevent clog-related damage
- Visually plan and mentally map part placement on raw stock
- High school diploma
- Minimum 3 years warehouse experience
- At least 1 year experience operating a waterjet, plasma, or similar cutting machine preferred
- Strong math and general geometry skills
- Working knowledge of computer drawing/CAD software
- Strong work ethic and self-motivated
- High integrity with positive working relationships
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to multitask and work independently
- Ability to lift 50-75 lbs
- Must have clear Drug Screen & Background
