Position Summary

This job administers anesthesia to patients during the performance of surgical, obstetrical and other pain‑producing clinical procedures under the supervision of a physician. The RN‑CRN works in a collaborative model including but not limited to residents, fellows, attendings and staff who care for patients.

Education

Required – Master's degree from a school of nurse anesthesia accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).

Work Experience

Required – None.

Certifications

Required – License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice.

Certification through the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA);
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification from the American Heart Association.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
  • Proficient with Windows‑style applications and keyboard.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on‑call availability).
Job Duties
  • Document patient procedures and incidents.
  • Assess patient before, during, and after administering anesthesia.
  • Ensure patient safety and administer anesthesia following accepted practice techniques.
  • Act as a liaison to surgeons, anesthesiologists, co‑workers, patients, and families.
  • Participate in department quality assurance initiatives and activities of professional development.
  • Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
