The Office of Forestry's primary responsibilities include suppressing timberland wildfires; promoting sound forest management practices; disseminating information; facilitating educational programs; producing reforestation seedlings; enforcing timber-related laws; investigating timber theft; and assisting community urban forestry programs. Supervision is received from the Forestry Parish Supervisor.

- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
- Respond to and assist with wildfire suppression and prevention, protecting forests, communities, and natural resources.
- Document wildfire incidents, including location, acreage, and response activities.
- Assist with forest management activities, including timber cruising and monitoring for insects and diseases.
- Operate, inspect, and maintain fire suppression equipment, vehicles, and tools to ensure readiness for emergency response.
- Support public education and outreach programs on forestry and fire safety.
- Follow safety procedures and operational guidelines in all field and emergency response activities.
- Perform general forestry operations, land management tasks, and emergency support as assigned.
- Maintain readiness for physically demanding conditions, including lifting, walking on uneven terrain, climbing, and working outdoors in extreme weather.
- Current Louisiana Class A or B CDL preferred; new hires have one year to obtain a Class B or higher CDL with Department-provided training.
- Appointment Type: Full-time, Probational
- Career Progression: May be filled as a Forestry Crew Specialist 1 or 2, depending on experience.
- Compensation: Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
- Location: Office of Forestry, Shreveport, Caddo Parish.
- Benefits: Eligible for on‑call compensation ($1.00/hour), hazardous duty pay ($1.73/hour), and the Hazardous Duty Services Retirement Plan.
