Support DOTD’s Statewide Right of Way Program
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is seeking a Right of Way professional to support the acquisition of property and servitudes needed for transportation construction projects across Louisiana.
This position works hands‑on in the right of way process, assisting with property research, coordination with property owners, documentation, and relocation activities in compliance with State and Federal requirements. The role involves statewide travel, collaboration with consultants and local public agencies, and maintaining accurate project records.
Job Duties
- Support DOTD projects by assisting with the acquisition of property, servitudes, and other real estate needed for transportation improvements.
- Research property ownership by reviewing public records in parish courthouses and help prepare title research summaries, including ownership history and legal property descriptions.
- Prepare letters and documentation required for the right of way and relocation process, such as notification letters and compensation offers, in accordance with State and Federal requirements.
- Communicate with property owners, leaseholders, and other stakeholders to support negotiations for the amicable acquisition of property interests.
- Maintain accurate electronic records and project tracking information using systems such as LaGov, and assist with compiling project status reports.
- Assist with preparing deeds, obtaining signatures, recording documents in parish courthouses, and processing payments related to property acquisition and associated services.
- Help prepare relocation assistance plans and cost estimates, including moving expenses and replacement housing calculations, in compliance with State and Federal guidelines.
- Review acquisition and relocation files prepared by consultants or regional offices to ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant.
- Assist with coordinating the relocation of families, businesses, and personal property impacted by DOTD project.
- Three years of experience in property rights acquisition, real estate acquisition, real estate property management, relocation assistance, or real estate appraisal; OR
- Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR
- A bachelor's degree.
Experience Substitution:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience toward the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
Career Progression:
This position may be filled as Right of Way Agent 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on qualifications and agency needs.
Appointment Type:
Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment or Detail to Special Duty.
