Job Description:
The Louisiana Light Source (LLS) is home to one of only six synchrotrons in the United States. The facility supports a broad research portfolio in catalysis, mineral processing, agriculture, biotechnology, extreme‑uv lithography, and materials science. The LLS operates within LSU's Office of Research & Economic Development and serves as an interdisciplinary hub engaging university faculty, industry partners, and federal agencies. The Director will lead the LLS, defining its future vision, mission, and operations.
Responsibilities include oversight of the administrative infrastructure, scientific staff, research facilities, budgets, and strategic planning. The Director will also engage with university administration, external partners, and national and international scientific communities.
- Manage administrative infrastructure and scientific staff; prepare budgets and coordinate resource allocation (25%).
- Advocate for LLS programs; represent the center at university, national, and international forums (25%).
- Coordinate federal, state, and industry partnerships; secure funding and manage research projects (25%).
- Facilitate interdisciplinary research across LSU colleges, departments, and external institutions (20%).
- Perform additional duties as assigned (5%).
- Bachelor's degree and 7 years of experience in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
- Experience that fulfills the required responsibilities may substitute for the bachelor's degree.
- Ph.D. in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
- Proven record of accomplishment in research; leadership of large organizations or major initiatives.
- Experience securing and managing large‑scale grants and contracts.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non‑technical audiences.
