Position
Description:
The LSU AgCenter Aquaculture Research Station is seeking a Research Associate to assist with diverse field and lab work as part of a research program focused on commercial crawfish production. Applicants should have an undergraduate degree (BA, BS) in biology, natural resource ecology management, fisheries, or aquaculture or related field or lab experience in aquaculture or aquatic animal husbandry, preferably with invertebrates.
The ideal candidate will be experienced in farm equipment operation (tractor, bush hogging), driving and trailering, collecting field (soil, water quality, crayfish) data, and aquaculture pond management. The successful candidate will be involved in several on-going projects involving crawfish pond management, burrowing ecology, reproduction, catchability, behavior, and stress tolerance. The candidate will also be expected to maintain lab and field equipment including equipment, facilities, and infrastructure maintenance at the Aquaculture Research Station.
The position involves supporting and working with graduate students, as well as state, federal and non-governmental organization collaborators. Travel to field sites, including overnight stays, and occasional weekend work may be required.
Qualification Requirements: A minimum of a bachelor's degree in biology, natural resource ecology management, fisheries, or aquaculture. A master's degree is desired. Preference will be given to applicants with a degree in an aquaculture or aquatic science or a related field. Applicant must possess experience in some, or preferably all, of the following (1) experience working in the field, on a farm, aquaculture lab, or commercial aquaculture operation, operating a tractor, and collecting field and laboratory data;
(2) ability to work extended days outside during hot and cold days; (3) ability to work independently, create work plans, meet deadlines and collaborate; (4) experience and knowledge of crawfish/crayfish biology and ecology.

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
