This position is responsible for the quality assurance of trip ticket data submitted by seafood dealers and to make necessary edits in the trip ticket data management system. This position will train seafood dealers on the process of completing a trip ticket, and will manage phone calls to and from seafood dealers regarding trip ticket submissions and data.
AN IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING COMPENTENCIES- Knowledge of research and statistical methods
- Knowledge of aquatic organisms, specifically estuarine and marine finfish and shellfish
- Good observational and analytical skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, in a team environment
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing
A bachelor’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources.

Job DutiesThe Trip Ticket section has state and federal deadlines to meet throughout the year and Biologists play a very important role in meeting those deadlines. The primary duties of Biologists in the Trip Ticket office include, but are not limited to:
- Provides detailed training to licensed seafood dealers on the Trip Ticket Program - show dealers how to fill out trip tickets and Monthly Submission Sheets.
- Provides information on seafood dealer licenses to assist the public in determining which license they should purchase in order to operate legally.
- Fulfills fisherman or seafood dealer requests of their commercial data submitted to the Department via trip tickets, as well as providing trip ticket data to the enforcement division to assist in investigations.
- Sends bulk mail outs once a month to seafood dealers who have not submitted Monthly Submission Sheets.
- Responsible for the QA/QC of received trip tickets by recognizing and correcting any incorrect or missing data and contacting seafood dealers to correct any errors produced on error checks.
- Ensures that seafood dealers are submitting the proper documentation on time.
- Travel as needed with commercial license sales to train dealers.
- Other duties as assigned.

The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience
Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.
