GHD has an excellent opportunity for an Environmental Field Technician to join our team on a full‑time, 40‑hour/week basis, based out of our Baton Rouge, LA locations. This role is a “hands on” field position.
Conduct research or perform investigations to identify, abate, or eliminate sources of pollutants or hazards that affect either the environment or the health of the population. Using knowledge of various scientific disciplines, you may collect, synthesize, study, report, and recommend action based on data derived from measurements or observations of air, food, soil, water, and other sources.
Responsibilities- Collection of environmental water samples.
- Coordination with laboratory to ensure environmental samples are received, processed, and results are provided in a timely manner.
- Collect water samples and conduct bench‑scale analysis.
- Perform environmental inspections.
- Develop waste profiles based on analytical findings and generator knowledge.
- Coordination with waste transport services to transport waste off‑site in the regulated time frame.
- Ability to perform field work outdoors in various weather conditions and lift 50 pounds.
- Commitment to safety applying a behavior‑based safety culture in all aspects of the job.
- Strong mechanical, electrical, and computer proficiency.
- Physically capable of working in non‑ideal conditions (hot/cold temperatures, wet weather, outside, around loud equipment, traversing rough terrain).
- Self‑starter, flexible, great teammate, willing and able to work on a wide variety of tasks with minimal direction.
- Ability to analyze field readings, data, and operating parameters to optimize system operations.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and strong troubleshooting skills to resolve issues on the job.
- Data collection and analysis: collate and analyze data using preset tools, methods, and formats, working independently.
- Personal capability building: develop own capabilities through assessment and development planning, formal and informal training, coaching, and external professional accreditation where relevant.
- Health, Safety, and Environment: follow the organization’s HSE policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the well‑being of self and others.
- Client & Customer Management (External): manage relationships with small clients while helping senior colleagues manage relationships with larger key clients and customers.
- Sampling and testing: collect a range of samples for laboratory testing and undertake testing in accordance with statutory frameworks and best practice to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Project management: work within an established project management plan to achieve specific goals.
- Environmental impact assessment: carry out assessments and deliver on assigned tasks to ensure comprehensive evaluation.
- Solutions analysis: interpret data and identify possible answers, navigating a wide variety of processes, procedures, and precedents.
- Insights and reporting: contribute to the preparation of various data and analytics reports.
- Bid solicitation/Request for proposal/tender preparation: gather information and resources, and draft and complete standard requests for bid solicitation, RFP, and RFT on the requester side.
- Community of practice management: participate actively in a community of practice in a defined area of expertise or consulting to build expertise.
- Environmental risk management: coordinate the process of identifying, assessing, and mitigating environmental risks.
- 0–3 years of previous environmental sampling field experience.
- OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER training is a plus.
