Description Position Title
Environmental Specialist
Position PurposeThis position will conduct wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species surveys, stormwater pollution prevention plan preparation and inspections, and assist project managers and other associates with permitting, report preparation, and other environmental and regulatory project requirements.
You will also help our clients and communities and provide a vital role to the success of T. Baker Smith, our Environmental Discipline, and to associates, clients, and the community and environment.
The purpose of this position is to provide professional, technical day‑to‑day support to Senior and Project Managers and to carry out project scope in accordance with proposal and contract terms, primarily responsible for advanced technical support in the development/completion of assigned environmental projects.
Essential Functions- Assist in the development and coordination of environmental projects.
- Conduct fieldwork for environmental studies and reviews.
- Prepare reports and deliverables utilizing information gathered from fieldwork.
- Contact government agencies or private consultants to obtain information for studies and surveys.
- Coordinate the technical aspects of a variety of environmental and regulatory services.
- Evaluate project quality and review technical reports.
- Work with the project team to achieve scope, budget, and schedule.
- Organize and maintain project files and keep a neat and organized work area; maintain current knowledge of equipment, techniques, procedures, and regulations.
- Develop skill sets with assistance from your team for professional development.
- Participate as part of a community of associates.
- Participate in professional development and training.
- Work as part of a team helping each other succeed.
- Participate in proposal efforts.
- Assure drawings and designs are in accordance with project standards.

Physical RequirementsWhile performing the duties of this job, the associate is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to operate, handle, maneuver and/or manipulate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; use manual dexterity to operate computer, keyboard, calculator, and telephone; talk and hear; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Minimum Requirements- Bachelor of Science Degree in biology, botany, environmental or coastal sciences, forestry, wildlife, fisheries, or similar field.
- Ability to relate to clients and people at all levels, with excellent communication and diplomacy skills.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
- Ability to operate computer, using technical software, spreadsheets, and other business software. GIS experience is a plus.
Responsibilities are performed equally in an office and outdoor environment, exposed to weather conditions. Noise level in office moderate. Associate does work outdoors and rides in a boat, often exposed to noise, dust, smells, and other environmental factors. Nights away from home are sometimes required but generally planned.
Hours of WorkThis is a full‑time, non‑exempt position, requiring 40+ hours per week. Nights and weekend commitments to the organization, its associates, and clients are required, but generally planned in advance.
