Position: Coastal Resources Scientist 1-3 – CPRA

This position is located at the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority in the Plan Development Section, Planning and Research Division.

This position may be filled by a temporary job appointment. However, there is a possibility that this position may later be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.

The incumbent will perform scientific, environmental, and other technical work in support of the comprehensive Coastal Master Plan and Flood Risk and Resilience Program (FRRP) development and implementation – an important segment of CPRA’s overall coastal restoration and hurricane flood protection priorities.

The position involves initial planning aspects of multi-million dollar coastal restoration and flood protection projects, complex environmental programs, and feasibility studies. The position will also support CPRA’s role in statewide watershed floodplain management activities including coordination and collaboration with other state agencies. The incumbent can expect to assist the Coastal Resources Scientist Supervisor and other team members in facilitating public hearings and meetings.

Other specific responsibilities include creation, review, and approval of technical scientific/environmental reports and oversight of contractors and associated task scopes, schedules, and budgets. The Coastal Resources Scientist may also represent CPRA at conferences, workshops, seminars, public meetings, etc.

Ideal candidates for this position will contribute to the efforts of the Plan Development section through both independent and collaborative work and will demonstrate strong interpersonal communication and time management skills. The ability to digest technical information and communicate it thoughtfully to a wide range of audiences is also key to this position.

As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Coastal Resources Scientist 1, Coastal Resources Scientist 2, or Coastal Resources Scientist 3 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). The maximum salary for CRS 3 is $78,582.00 annually.

There are special bi-weekly entrance rates established for this position:

  • CRS 1 $ 1576.80
  • CRS 2 $ 1687.20
  • CRS 3 $ 1932.00

No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.
