BIOLOGIST DCL-A
The Biologist DCL-A position will serve as a Deer Program specialist and coordinate the Deer Management Assistant Program (DMAP). The incumbent serves as the Department's subject matter expert and staff advisor to agency personnel and the public on the management of white-tailed deer through the Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP). The incumbent also serves as a senior advisor on statewide investigations of deer diseases, urban and nuisance deer management programs, and feral hog disease and management issues.
Additionally, the incumbent mentors lower-level biologists and serves as the Assistant to the Deer Program Manager.

This job is designated as a Dual Career Ladder(DCL) job and requires applicants meet the following supplemental qualification in addition to the minimum qualifications.
Supplemental
Qualification:
Four years of experience in whitetail deer management, population surveys, habitat development, research, management and regulations development.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Experience providing deer management technical assistance
- Experienced in plant taxonomy
- Experience with browse surveys and other habitat data collection techniques
- Experience with herd health checks and wildlife necropsy
- Ability to communicate professionally, orally and in writing
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting
- Experience with the chemical immobilization of wildlife
- Available for regular field travel, overnight stays, and participation in regional Southeastern working groups
- Ability to lift objects weighing over 50 pounds
- Experience with operating off-road vehicles
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus four years of experience in wildlife or fisheries, forestry, or environmental science; OR
A non-thesis master's degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus three years of the required specialized experience; OR
A master's degree with a completed thesis or a doctorate in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus two years of the required specialized experience.

This position represents a major subset of the Deer Program, and as such receives programmatic supervision from the Biologist Program Manager. This job is designated as a Dual Career Ladder job as defined in CS Rule 1.14.1.1 requiring performance of higher-level complex duties and possession of advanced specialized skills.
