Grid Source Fiber Splicer – Baton Rouge, LA

Pay: $30-35 per hour depending on experience

The Fiber Splicer is responsible for mending and performing maintenance to fix any signal errors; splicing thin strands of flexible glass that allow the transmission of light from one location to the next; and terminating fiber optic cables to develop into new areas.

Responsibilities
  • Prep, dress, store fiber optic cabling to specifications and assemble equipment according to design specifications.
  • Perform fiber optic splicing and understand engineering and splicing drawings.
  • Read, interpret, and understand fiber matrix, plant design files, and complete required documentation, such as as-builts in electronic and/or hard copy as required.
  • Prep armored/unarmored cables, ribbon and loose-tube fiber, mid-sheaths.
  • Install and re-enter various enclosure types, patch panel, multiplexers (WDM / CWDM / DWDM).
  • Install and dress fiber optic cables (vertical/horizontal).
  • Preform splicing and testing on aerial fiber, activate, and troubleshoot fiber links after installation, and/or underground fiber plant.
  • Hang and secure enclosures and storage loops in aerial/underground locations.
  • Maintain proper inventory on vehicle based on work assignment.
  • Operate vehicle and bucket lift safely, following all safety and traffic regulations.
  • Prepare paperwork to track daily production and accurately record completed work on job site blueprints.
  • Other responsibilities as directed by supervision.
Qualifications
  • Must be 21 or older.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in fiber optics.
  • Strong knowledge and ability in understanding standard fiber optic preparation and splicing equipment, OTDR, fusion splicer, power meters, identifiers, and associated hand tools.
  • Able to pass background and drug screening.
  • Good driving record.
  • Can work with minimal supervision and complete tasks assigned in a timely manner.
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication using technical terms; skills with MS Word, Excel, and email required.
