Commercial Maintenance Technician
This mobile Commercial Maintenance Technician role focuses on performing preventative maintenance and repair work across multiple commercial facilities. You will travel between office building sites in a company-provided van, troubleshoot and resolve building issues, and ensure facilities remain safe, functional, and presentable. The position combines hands-on trade skills with strong communication and documentation responsibilities, requiring comfort with both tools and technology.
Responsibilities- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on commercial facilities, including office building environments.
- Service and repair plumbing systems such as faucets, toilets, and related fixtures to ensure proper operation.
- Carry out minor electrical maintenance, including troubleshooting and repairing basic electrical issues within scope.
- Complete general carpentry work, including doors, drywall repair, and other structural maintenance tasks.
- Handle painting and cosmetic repairs to maintain a professional appearance of client facilities.
- Drive a company van to multiple customer sites within an assigned geographic region, following scheduled routes and responding to service calls.
- Work autonomously at single or multiple sites, and when required, partner with another technician to complete larger or more complex tasks.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with customers, internal teams, and other service vendors to coordinate work and resolve issues.
- Log, update, and close work orders using company computer systems, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and other digital platforms.
- Use an iPad and smartphone to document work through photos, texts, emails, and electronic forms, ensuring accurate and timely records.
- Order supplies as needed and support basic budget management related to maintenance activities using digital tools.
- Respond to on-call assignments as required, addressing urgent maintenance issues and documenting all work performed.
- Follow safety protocols at all times, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment such as steel-toe footwear.
- Maintain the company van in a clean, organized, and safe condition, and responsibly use the purchase card for authorized expenses.
- Build strong customer relationships by providing reliable service, clear communication, and professional behavior at all times.
- At least 5 years of hands-on handyman or maintenance experience in a commercial facilities environment.
- Extensive facilities maintenance experience in office building settings or similar commercial properties.
- Proficiency in plumbing maintenance and repair, including faucets, toilets, and related systems.
- Experience with minor electrical maintenance and troubleshooting within a commercial environment.
- Carpentry skills, including work on doors, drywall, and general building repairs.
- Painting skills for interior and exterior maintenance as needed.
- Exposure to HVAC systems and basic HVAC maintenance tasks.
- Previous field or multi-site building maintenance experience, including travel between locations.
- Active and valid driver's license suitable for operating a company vehicle.
- Strong computer literacy, including use of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) for documentation and reporting.
- Comfort using iPads, smartphones, and digital tools for communication, photo documentation, work order management, and supply ordering.
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability and a "figure it out" mindset when addressing maintenance issues.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with customers, internal staff, and other service vendors.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks and priorities.
Skills & Qualifications
- Trade school certification in a relevant field is a plus.
- EPA certification is a plus, particularly for work related to HVAC systems.
- Experience with supply ordering and basic budget management using digital platforms is beneficial.
- Prior experience working with national or regional facility portfolios is advantageous.
- Strong customer service orientation and the ability to build rapport with clients and vendors.
- Comfort working both individually and as part of a team at client sites.
