Summary

The Industrial Carpenter Helper assists carpenters and other craft personnel with construction, maintenance, repair, and modification activities within industrial facilities. This is a support-level position responsible for preparing and transporting materials, assisting with concrete formwork and general carpentry activities, maintaining tools and work areas, and performing basic construction tasks under the direction of experienced craft personnel and supervision. The Carpenter Helper works as part of a multidisciplinary construction team in active industrial environments and is expected to follow instructions, learn basic carpentry skills, and perform assigned work safely and efficiently.

This position provides an opportunity to develop the knowledge and hands‑on experience necessary for progression into higher‑level industrial carpentry positions.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous construction, industrial, warehouse, general labor, or carpentry experience preferred but not required.
  • Basic familiarity with hand tools and construction materials preferred.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and measurements.
  • Ability to safely perform physically demanding work in an industrial construction environment.
  • Ability to meet applicable company, client, and site‑specific safety and training requirements.
  • Ability to work varying schedules, including overtime, weekends, nights, shutdowns, and outages, as required by project needs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of construction tools, materials, and work practices.
  • Ability to learn industrial carpentry methods, terminology, materials, and procedures.
  • Ability to learn basic concrete formwork construction and dismantling techniques.
  • Ability to identify and properly use common hand tools and basic power tools appropriate to the employee's training and authorization.
  • Ability to use measuring tapes and perform basic measurements and calculations.
  • Ability to assist with measuring, cutting, positioning, and assembling construction materials under appropriate direction.
  • Ability to follow drawings, sketches, measurements, and work instructions with guidance.
  • Ability to follow established safety procedures, work permits, job safety analyses (JSAs/JHAs), and site‑specific requirements.
  • Ability to recognize unsafe conditions and immediately communicate concerns to supervision.
  • Ability to inspect tools and equipment before use and report damaged or unsafe equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a crew and coordinate activities with carpenters and other crafts.
  • Ability to maintain tools, materials, and work areas in a clean and organized condition.
  • Strong attention to safety, quality, and assigned work.
  • Ability to accept direction, learn new skills, and apply instruction in a hands‑on work environment.
  • Dependable attendance, punctuality, and willingness to perform assigned duties.
Essential Functions
  • Assist industrial carpenters with construction, installation, repair, modification, and dismantling activities.
  • Assist with constructing, installing, bracing, and dismantling concrete forms for foundations, slabs, equipment pads, walls, piers, columns, and other concrete structures.
  • Measure, mark, hold, position, and prepare lumber, plywood, form materials, and other construction materials under the direction of experienced craft personnel.
