Our client isn't your typical HVAC installer — they engineer and validate highly specialized environmental control equipment built for the most demanding facilities in the country, including data centers, industrial sites, and other high-consequence environments where failure is not an option.
We're seeking an experienced Systems Testing & Commissioning Technician with a passion for troubleshooting, diagnostics, and solving complex mechanical and electrical challenges. This role is ideal for a seasoned commercial or industrial HVAC professional who enjoys figuring out how systems operate, ensuring they perform to specification, and helping develop the next generation of technicians.
What You'll Do- Test and commission custom-built HVAC equipment prior to shipment
- Diagnose and troubleshoot refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, and control system issues
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and refrigeration prints
- Verify equipment performance and ensure units meet quality and customer specifications
- Troubleshoot PLC-controlled systems and variable frequency drives (VFDs) when applicable
- Partner with engineering and production teams to resolve technical issues
- Document testing results accurately using computer-based systems
- Support process improvement and continuous quality initiatives
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior testing technicians as needed
- Travel occasionally to support field testing or customer needs when required
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of commercial or industrial HVAC experience
- Strong understanding of refrigeration systems, including superheat and subcooling
- Ability to diagnose complex refrigeration system issues
- Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
- Understanding of three-phase electrical power
- Working knowledge of low-voltage controls
- Basic computer proficiency
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail
- Experience with PLC-controlled equipment
- Experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- Previous supervisory or lead technician experience
- Experience performing start-up or commissioning of commercial HVAC equipment
- Ability to travel occasionally
- EPA Universal Certification preferred
