Child Support Enforcement SpecialistThis position is responsible for critical financial functions that ensure the integrity of child support collections and distributions. Primary duties include processing returned checks, researching and resolving suspense accounts, applying lump-sum payments, managing daily financial emails, responding to phone inquiries from custodial and noncustodial parents, employers, and partner agencies, and performing a variety of other financial transactions requiring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with federal and state regulations.

Minimum Qualifications- Five years of experience in child support enforcement; OR
- Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus two years of experience in child support enforcement; OR
- A bachelor’s degree plus two years of experience in child support enforcement; OR
- A master’s degree plus one year of experience in child support enforcement.
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
Job DutiesJob Duties and Other Information
- Investigates and responds to CSE & DA staff regarding complaints of lost or missing checks.
- Receives Journal Entry requests via CAFÉ from field staff to process payments in suspense or posting errors.
- Provides state office and field staff with expert advice and resolutions on complex matters including distribution of mis-posted payments, suspense money, distribution hierarchy, financial audits, and recovery of erroneous funds.
- Review and respond to lump sum emails received by employers via the Lump Sum group e-mail.
- Updated notices are sent to the non-custodial parents' employer with current arrears balance.
- May assist in requesting check pulls
Appointment Type: Promotional.
This position is open to current permanent classified Department of Children and Family Services employees ONLY. Also, it may be filled as a detail and promoted within 12 months.
Work Schedule: Typically, work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday. Flexible work schedules are available after meeting certain criteria and is dependent upon the position you are applying for. Some positions require working shifts.
Work Location: Baton Rouge, LA
Compensation: CSE Specialist position has a Special Entrance Rate of $22.76/hour.
Louisiana HB 420 requires all prospective DCFS employees to complete and clear multiple background clearances prior to employment with this agency.
