Responsibilities- Assist the classroom teacher with implementation of student’s Individual Education Program involving development and implementation of instruction, behavioral activities.
- Attend staff and team meetings as appropriate and requested.
- Carry out instructional support and training activities with students under the direction of the teacher in classroom setting. Assist classroom staff and cooperate in a supportive role in the classroom.
- Assist in planning and implementation of educational activities in relation to lesson plan. The Individualized Support Aide, as directed by the teacher, will be responsible for the supervision of the assigned student and will direct, assist, and instruct the student as appropriate.
- Maintain student behavior through appropriate and approved behavioral interventions and approved techniques using Conscious Discipline and/or other supports as requested in IEP.
- Assist assigned child in meeting self-help, health and behavior needs including toileting and personal care needs.
- Assist instructional staff in the supervision of assigned child while transitioning throughout the day.
- Understand and be aware of medical needs of assigned child and follow medical protocol pertaining to Red and Yellow folders as appropriate.
- Maintain documentation of student progress related to goals and objectives while managing required forms and records.
- Maintain regular consistent attendance and punctuality while adhering to the agency dress code.
- Comply with program and Agency policies and procedures as well as general health and safety procedures. Maintain confidentiality.
- Participate in classroom child supervision procedure compliance and provide direct supervision of child/children.
- Ensure frequent and consistent contact with families while maintaining appropriate documentation.
- Comply with Agency’s Mission, Vision and Culture statements.
- All other duties as assigned by direct supervisor or management.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk, bend, stoop and kneel, see and hear, use hands and arms to lift up to 60 lbs. and walk around the classroom, outdoor play area and school facilities.
- Work is performed in a classroom setting and school environment where the noise level is moderate to high.
- Be able to withstand different temperatures through the winter, spring, summer, and fall to be able to provide supervision and engagement with children in outside play per program temperature guidelines.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required. CDA is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of six months experience in early childhood development is preferred.
Professional Competence and Job Knowledge- Ability to adapt curriculum to meet the needs of all children.
- Ability to apply Early Childhood Development theory in daily classroom activities, and adapt to the individual needs of children.
- Knowledge of typical behaviors/expectations of children zero-five requiring additional supports.
- Willingness to continue professional growth through continued education.
