Position: Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Inclusion Teacher

EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIAL EDUCATION (ECSE) INCLUSION TEACHER

Responsible for teaching preschool students in a special education classroom or other natural environments.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan and direct learning activities for small groups of students according to their academic and behavioral needs.
  • Diagnose specific student needs, plan and carry out individualized programs for each student.
  • Shape appropriate academic and social behaviors, to provide positive adult role model and to evaluate student performances.
  • Develop and implement behavioral classroom structures and behavioral programs based upon student need.
  • Consult and coordinate instruction, behavioral management and other appropriate student services with other personnel who serve students with disabilities.
  • Prepare and maintain lesson plans.
  • Assist with planning curriculum, lessons and teaching methods.
  • Engage in evaluation, assessment and screening of students.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate records, reports and procedures including, but not limited to, lesson plans, behavioral data and student progress on IEP goals/objectives.
  • Provide direction and information to teacher assistant(s).
  • Travel to meet job requirements.
  • Conduct parent/teacher conferences.
  • Provide parent training and training for teacher assistants or other staff as appropriate.
  • Participate/coordinate IEPT and other meetings as required/requested.
  • Use various software packages for communication and documentation purposes.
  • Provide prereferral consultation.
  • Maintain regular consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Maintain a professional personal appearance.
  • Adhere to district health and safety procedures.
  • Adhere to Board Policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Must meet Michigan Department of Education requirements for endorsements on teaching certificates or temporary approval.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with endorsement in early childhood education and special education (a ZS endorsement, or a ZA endorsement and another Special Education Endorsement)
  • OR
  • Meet criteria for Full Approval for ECSE Teacher in Michigan (Must possess a major or minor in early childhood education or child growth and development and a valid Michigan teaching certificate with a special education endorsement).
SALARY

Commensurate with Experience and Contract in Effect
