Middle School Band Teacher

Job Title

Direct and manage the overall program of instrumental music.

Position Responsibilities:

Instruction: Develop and implement plans for instrumental music program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences with varying abilities and talents. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, recitations and instruments that reflect understanding of the learning styles, varying levels of talent and needs of students assigned. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal recitations.

Classroom Management: Apply appropriate consequences for inappropriate student behavior in the classroom and concert hall. Develop healthy self-esteem in students. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, instruments, materials and facilities. Maintains records for such things as student attendance, evaluations, report cards, discipline records and documents required by the School Board and prescribed formats.

Program Planning: Direct middle school instrumental performers. Provide for band participation at extracurricular events including concerts, football games, pep rallies, and parades. Arrange transportation for events. Comply with federal and state laws. Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs. Recommend policies and improve program.

Controls the storage and use of school-owned property.

Communication: Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals and teachers. Maintains a collegiate and collaborative relationship with teachers and building staff.

Qualifications: Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a Music Education (JX or JQ) endorsement required. Experience teaching in an urban school district preferred. Salary: $51,500 - $87,883

Contract:

188 Days (10 Months)
