Job Title:
Environmental Safety and Health Specialist
Reports to:
Plant Manager
Key Responsibilities
1. Regulatory Compliance & Audits Ensure compliance with federal (OSHA, EPA), state (MIOSHA, Michigan DEQ), and local regulations.
Conduct routine safety inspections, risk assessments, and environmental audits.
Maintain accurate records for hazardous waste (lead acids), SDS, and incident reports.
2. Hazard Identification & Mitigation Evaluate risks related to battery manufacturing processes (chemical exposure, fire/explosion hazards, ergonomics).Recommend and implement engineering controls, PPE, and safety procedures.
Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis to prevent recurrences.
3. Training & Employee Engagement Develop and deliver EHS training programs (lockout/tagout, HAZMAT, emergency response).Promote a strong safety culture through toolbox talks, safety committees, and employee feedback systems.
Collaborate with HR to address employee health concerns (exposure monitoring, ergonomic assessments).4. Environmental & Sustainability Initiatives Oversee waste management, air/water permitting, and spill prevention plans.
Support sustainability efforts (recycling programs, energy efficiency improvements).Qualifications &
Skills Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
3+ years of EHS experience in manufacturing (chemical, battery, or automotive sectors preferred).Knowledge of OSHA 1910, MIOSHA, EPA RCRA, and DOT hazardous materials regulations.
Strong problem-solving skills with experience in incident investigation (5 Whys, Fishbone analysis).Proficiency in Microsoft Office, EHS management software.
Preferred:
Certifications:
OSHA 30, CSP, CIH, or CHMM.
Experience with lead acid battery safety protocols.fwbx
