The Packaging Improvement Engineer supports packaging line startup, commissioning, reliability, and continuous improvement initiatives within a manufacturing environment. This role works directly with operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and project teams to improve packaging line performance through equipment troubleshooting, action item coordination, data analysis, and implementation of process improvements.
Responsibilities include supporting startup and stabilization of packaging equipment, tracking and driving completion of line improvement actions, collecting and analyzing downtime and performance data, participating in root cause investigations, and assisting with the development of operational standards, training materials, and maintenance practices. The Packaging Improvement Engineer also serves as a key liaison between production and engineering teams, ensuring effective communication, issue resolution, and execution of continuous improvement initiatives across packaging operations.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 0-2 years of manufacturing experience, including internships, co-ops, engineering projects, or full-time experience.
- Experience using Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting operational, manufacturing, or engineering performance data.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment troubleshooting, and root cause problem-solving methodologies.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Continuous Improvement, or Six Sigma principles.
- Experience supporting manufacturing startup, commissioning, or equipment installation projects.
- Experience with automated packaging equipment, conveyors, case packers, palletizers, wrappers, robotics, or material handling systems.
- Experience creating operating procedures, standard work documentation, or technical training materials.
- Experience with manufacturing performance metrics including downtime, waste, OEE, and throughput analysis
