TitleRegistered Nurse – Part‑Time (64 hours per pay period), Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm, Bronson Battle Creek Cancer Center
Responsibilities- Under general supervision, manage care delivery for patients throughout the length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge, utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation and evaluation.
- Coordinate care provided by other professionals and delegate selected acts, tasks or functions that fall within scope of professional nursing practice.
- Provide selected aspects of physical care within the scope of professional nursing practice as appropriate to patient acuity and complexity.
- Document and communicate during each tour of duty the patients’ response to care, consumption of resources and anticipated needs.
- Demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
- Procure and maintain required certifications (e.g., BLS, ALS, critical care) as per unit needs.
- Perform mental and visual tasks that require alertness, concentration and use of a personal computer for 40–70% of the time.
- Lift up to 50 pounds and assist with heavier tasks when necessary.
- Associate’s degree in Nursing (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred; must be obtained within 8 years of hire.
- Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing in the state of Michigan.
- BLS certification required upon completion of core orientation.
- State licensing and specialty certifications (critical care, ALS, etc.) as required by unit.
- Valid driver’s license in Michigan and proof of insurance for BAH (if applicable).
- Bronson South Haven: SALT triage, ESI triage, NIH Stroke Scale within 90 days of hire;
Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Trauma Nursing Core Course within 6 months of hire. - Labor & Delivery/Mother‑Baby/Antepartum at BMH & BBC:
Electronic Fetal Monitoring certification within 6 months of completing intermediate fetal monitoring. - Special Care Unit:
Pediatric Advance Life Support within 6 months of hire. - Scrub RN:
Interpreting procedure card, assessing case cart, applying knowledge of operative procedures, dealing with equipment, observing changes in patient condition, assisting surgeons, performing scrub duties in multiple services.
- The registered nurse collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patients’ health or the situation.
- Assesses the patient’s physical and developmental needs.
- Analyzes assessment data to identify appropriate patient needs.
- Documents nursing history and age-appropriate physical/emotional needs, strengths for assigned patients.
- Reviews vital signs to assess condition of patient and detect deviations from normal.
- Uses the assessment data to identify patient problems and confirms problems with patient and family when appropriate.
- Documents the expected outcomes and plan of care related to the problems through use of the clinical pathway and outcome teaching record.
- Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient.
- Utilizes the patient/family input when defining outcomes, incorporating patient values, ethical and cultural considerations.
- Coordinates discharge planning for outcomes not achieved utilizing the continuum of care available.
- Develops a plan that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
- Incorporates clinical pathways into the plan when appropriate.
- Develops individualized interventions with patient input when appropriate.
- Considers data from other members of the healthcare team when developing the plan of care.
- Implements the identified plan.
