American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical ICU position requiring at least 1 year of recent ICU experience, with night shift scheduling and a mix of ICU and PCU patient populations.

Requirements
  • Active MI RN license required; pending MI license considered with a concrete ETA and proof of application at time of submission.
  • Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
  • Minimum 1 year of recent ICU experience required.
  • Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, and multi-system organ failure management.
  • Experience with IV insulin protocols, arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, and blood product administration.
  • Experience with continuous IV sedation, vasoactive drips, cardiac drips, and procedural sedation administration.
  • Respiratory skills required: ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, ETT/NT suctioning, and care of ventilated patients.
  • Experience with CVVHD/CRRT and chronic/acute renal failure management.
  • CVA/acute stroke management experience required.
Responsibilities
  • Located in a hospital-based Medical ICU (MICU) setting that serves a mixed population of ICU and PCU patients.
  • Common diagnoses include COPD, encephalopathy, drug overdose, DKA, AKI, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, heart failure, and A-fib.
  • Patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1 for cooling/CRRT/high acuity patients, 2:1 for ventilated patients, 3:1 for mixed ICU/PCU, and up to 4:1 for PCU or general med/transfer patients.
  • Special procedures include CRRT, HD, A-line placement, CVC placement, trach placement, and chest tube placement.
  • Special equipment includes cooling machines, Bair Huggers, massive transfusion setups, and CRRT.
  • Unit averages approximately 3 ventilated patients per day.
  • Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30.
  • Every other weekend is required.
  • Float rotation to other ICU and Med‑Surg units is required as census fluctuates;
    Med‑Surg ratios are approximately 1:5–7.
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
  • Holiday coverage is required.
  • No time off (RTO) permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment.
  • All requested time off must be submitted prior to offer acceptance; any RTO requests received after an offer is extended must be approved by the on-site manager.
  • Travel RNs float in rotation with staff MICU RNs to Med‑Surg units as ICU census fluctuates.
  • ICU physicians may retain lower-acuity patients in the ICU, in which case those patients may be grouped with others at a 3:1 or 4:1 ratio if stable.
