Responsibilities
  • Manage the care delivery for patients in the organization throughout the length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge by utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Coordinate care provided by other professionals and delegate selected acts, tasks, or functions within the scope of professional nursing practice.
  • Provide selected aspects of physical care within the scope of professional nursing practice based on patient acuity and complexity.
  • Document and communicate during each tour of duty the patient’s response to care provided, consumption of resources, and anticipated needs.
  • Demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
  • Maintain a current BLS certification by completion of core orientation.
  • Maintain critical care or ALS certifications, and other unit‑specific certifications as required.
  • Apply knowledge of operative procedures and physician preferences by anticipating their needs during scrub nursing duties.
  • Interpret procedure card, assess case cart for supplies, and arrange acquisition of missing equipment.
  • Observe changes in patient condition indicating emergent problems and communicate promptly.
  • Update case information, including preference cards and equipment status, and recommend changes in procedure.
  • Act as a resource for circulators unfamiliar with positioning devices or specialty equipment.
  • Perform scrub duties across multiple services, including neuro and ortho STII services.
  • Participate in maintaining professional, healthy work environment through committee involvement and attendance at unit staff meetings.
  • Serve as a patient advocate and integrate research findings into practice to improve patient outcomes.
  • Support the integration of ethical principles and patient rights into all areas of practice.
  • Assist patients and families in understanding treatment options, costs, risks, and benefits.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Nursing required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred, must be obtained within 8 years of hire.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the state of Michigan.
  • Current driver’s license in Michigan and proof of insurance required for BAH.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.
  • Capacity to handle mental and visual fatigue, repetitive tasks, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Compliance with unit staffing guidelines and care standards.
Additional Requirements for Specific Units
  • Bronson South Haven Specific - All new hires must obtain a BSN within 8 years of hire date.
  • Emergency Department:
    Complete SALT triage, ESI Triage, NIH Stroke Scale within 90 days; advanced cardiac/pediatric/trauma courses within 6 months.
  • Special Care Unit:
    Obtain Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 6 months.
  • Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby/Antepartum:
    Complete Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification within 6 months of completing intermediate fetal monitoring.
