Pre-Op, Post-Op, PACU Registered Nurse (RN) – Bronson Battle Creek Hospital – Full Time Positions Available

• Associate’s degree in Nursing required
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred; must obtain within 8 years of hire
• Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the state of Michigan
• As of December 29, 2013, any nurse hired by Bronson who does not hold a BSN (or higher nursing degree) will be given 8 years from date of hire to obtain; if not obtained, employment will be terminated
• BLS certification required by completion of core orientation
• Critical Care or ALS certification, and other unit‑specific certifications may be required for some RNs

Under general supervision, the registered nurse manages the care delivery for patients throughout their stay, utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation, and evaluation; coordinating care by other professionals; delegating selected tasks within scope of practice; providing physical care as appropriate; documenting and communicating the patient’s response to care, resource use and anticipated needs. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

• Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment to set an appropriate plan of action
• Must be able to constantly communicate verbally, in writing, and electronically

Work may involve high levels of mental/visual fatigue, interactive repetitive tasks, operation of computer or CRT between 40–70% of time, regular lifting of bulky or moderately heavy weights (up to 50 pounds), and occasional heavier tasks involving pushing, pulling or handling equipment.

• The registered nurse collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health or situation.
  • Assesses the patient’s physical and developmental needs
  • Analyzes assessment data to identify appropriate patient needs
  • Documents nursing history and age‑appropriate physical/emotional needs/strengths for assigned patients
  • Reviews vital signs to assess condition of patient and detect deviations from normal
• The registered nurse analyzes the assessment data to determine patient problems or issues.
  • Uses the assessment data to identify patient problems
  • Confirms problems with patient and family when appropriate
  • Documents the expected outcomes and plan of care related to the problems through use of the clinical pathway and outcome teaching record
• The registered nurse identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient.
  • Utilizes the patient/family input when defining outcomes; incorporates patient values, ethical and cultural considerations
  • Coordinates discharge planning for outcomes not achieved utilizing the continuum of care available
• The registered nurse develops a plan that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Incorporates clinical pathways into the plan when appropriate
  • Develops individualized interventions with patient input when appropriate
  • Considers data from other members of the healthcare team when developing the plan of care
• The registered nurse implements the identified plan.
  • Implements appropriate interventions
  • Administers prescribed medication and treatment in accordance with approved nursing techniques and policies
