Title
Bronson Battle Creek Hospital Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Med/Surg Units PRN/Per-Diem/Casual Variable Shift
LocationBBC Bronson Battle Creek
Units- General Medical Unit – 37 bed cardiac/pulmonary unit, 10 bed clinical decision unit (CDU) focused on chest pain.
- Neurovascular/Ortho Unit – 30 bed unit including Orthopedic Renewal Center for total joint replacement.
- Oncology/Medical/Surgical – 37 bed unit with variety of patient types, including many surgeries.
The LPN will perform the following tasks under the supervision of the RN:
- Assist the RN in collecting data, accompanying patients, and responding to patient/family requests for services.
- Pass medications and administer IV therapy within the scope of practical nursing.
- Document all data, care given, interventions, and patient status in accordance with Pro Health guidelines.
- Admit patients, coordinate with charge nurse for overflow or high census situations.
- Respond to call lights and monitor alarms, observe and report adverse reactions to medication or treatment.
- Provide wound care, bathing, dressing, enemas, douches, alcohol rubs, massages, compresses, and assist patients with transfers and mobility.
- Prepare or examine food trays and assist patients with feeding.
- Assist in delivery, care, and feeding of infants and support end‑of‑life care by washing and dressing deceased patients.
- Assemble and use medical equipment such as catheters, tracheotomy tubes, and oxygen supplies; sterilize equipment and maintain inventory.
- Utilize computerized systems to acquire supplies and enter patient data as defined by the role.
- Maintain a clean, orderly environment and support institutional cleanliness standards.
- Provide patient education materials based on identified needs and facilitate discharge planning, including documenting in Express Care log.
- Participate effectively as a member of the health‑care team and precept new employees and students as needed.
- Develop professional growth goals, meet organizational obligations, and precept future staff.
- High school diploma or GED and successful completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program.
- Licensed Practical Nurse in good standing with the State of Michigan.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the end of the core orientation period.
- Ability to demonstrate required clinical competencies within an approximately 3‑month orientation period.
- Ability to move and respond quickly to emergency situations.
- Proficiency in inputting and retrieving data from computerized systems.
- Ability to rotate within service lines and related service areas.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with patients, visitors, and the care team; clear speech, legible writing, and a comforting, positive demeanor.
- Physical capability for standing, walking, lifting light to moderate objects (≤20 lbs), and assisting patient mobility.
- Experience in a health‑care delivery setting preferred.
