American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical position requiring a Michigan RN license and travel experience, with strong consideration given for ER or Observation Unit backgrounds.
Details- Work in the Medical Surgical unit of a hospital, including a 10-bed ER Overflow Observation Unit
- Observation Unit patient ratios typically run 1:4-5, or up to 1:7 when working as an RN/LPN team
- Focus on continuous patient reassessment for discharge readiness with rapid admission and discharge turnover
- Other Med/Surg units see a general mix of medical patients
- Day shift schedule (3x12 Hours), 7:00 AM-7:30 PM
- Required to work every other weekend
- Floating required to other Med/Surg units, typically about once per week
- Works alongside a variety of staff including RNs, LPNs, and Techs
- Epic charting system experience preferred
- Up to 26-week assignment length with 36 or 48-hour weekly options available
- Active Michigan RN license required
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- ACLS, CPI, and NIHSS certifications preferred
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Prior travel experience strongly preferred, though more overall experience may be considered in place of travel experience
- ER experience will be considered
- Recent Observation Unit, Admission Unit, or Short Stay Unit experience recommended for first-time travelers
- Community hospital experience preferred
- Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, and peripheral line management
- Experience managing cardiac drips (no titration), PCA, and insulin
- Experience with oxygen administration and non-invasive airway management
- Proof of flu vaccination required for consideration, with any exemption request submitted within 48 hours of signing
- Supervisor-level references required
- Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a differential local rate
- No radius restriction for standard travel rate eligibility
- Travelers are prioritized for floating assignments
- Holiday time off requests are not guaranteed and must be discussed with the manager for possible accommodation
- RTO limited to no more than 10 days
- Previous Bronson internal travelers may return after 6 months; previous permanent staff may return after 1 year
- Non-billable orientation and annual modules (8 hours) are self-reported and required
- Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed or approved at this time
- First-time travelers may be considered if they have recent relevant Observation, Admission, or Short Stay Unit experience
