American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a night shift hospital position requiring a Michigan RN license and prior travel or relevant unit experience.
Details- Work in Med/Surg units, including a 10-bed ER Observation/Overflow unit and other general Med/Surg floors
- Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 7:30
- Patient ratios of 1:6 at night and 1:5 during days on the Observation Unit, flexing to 1:8 with LPN support on other Med/Surg units
- Care for a mix of medical and surgical patients alongside RNs, LPNs, and Techs
- Required to work every other weekend
- Floating to other Med/Surg units required, typically about once per week
- Epic charting system experience preferred
- Active Michigan RN license required
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- ACLS, CPI, and NIHSS certifications preferred
- Minimum of 1 year of RN experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required, unless candidate has recent Observation, Admission, or Short Stay Unit experience
- Community hospital experience preferred
- Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, central line blood draws, and PICC line management preferred
- Skills in wound care/wound vac, tracheostomy care, and telemetry monitoring preferred
- Proof of flu vaccination required, with exemption requests submitted within 48 hours of signing
- Supervisor-level references required
- Focus on continuous reassessment of patient readiness for discharge in the rapidly admitting/discharging Observation Unit
- Holiday coverage required with no holiday RTO approved until on assignment
- RTO limited to no more than 10 days
- Travelers are prioritized for floating assignments
- Locals accepted at the same rate with no radius restriction, though some specialties may have local rate adjustments
- Previous Bronson travelers may return after 6 months; previous permanent staff may return after 1 year
- Non-billable training modules completed during orientation and annually, self-reported
- First-time travelers not recommended unless they have recent relevant unit experience
