Responsibilities
- Perform environmental analysis on the action taken by disposal contractors handling and disposing of hazardous waste properly.
- Examine documents submitted by contractors to ensure a clear audit trail exists from generator to final disposal facility.
- Identify contract or environmental discrepancies and determine compliance with Federal, State, Local, EPA, DOT, and DoD regulations.
- Recommend resolution of non‑compliance to the contracting specialist for major or minor discrepancies.
- Enter manifest tracking data into automated disposal and supply systems.
- Participate in post‑award conferences and problem‑resolution meetings with disposal contractors.
- Support contract specialist in administration of hazardous waste disposal contracts.
- Assist the surveillance team in preparing for audit visits.
To qualify for the Environmental Protection Technician position, applicants must demonstrate:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; graduate education may be considered if directly related to the position.
- Specialized experience: One year of experience directly related to the duties of this position, equivalent to GS‑06 level. Experience may include paid and unpaid work including volunteer service (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) that provides relevant skills.
- Experience includes:
- Validating and documenting contractor performance against contract requirements.
- Examining documentation for completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Performing mission‑related technical or clerical work.
- Must be a United States citizen.
