Currently we operate 71 retail locations in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. We supply a wide variety of products, including tools, hardware, automotive, pet, work and casual clothing, footwear, farm supplies, horse and livestock feed, bird food, lawn and garden, and alternative heating.

The primary responsibility of the assistant store manager is to manage the store in the absence of the store manager. The assistant store manager must exemplify the company’s culture by consistently supporting and strengthening the core philosophies. This role requires strong leadership skills to motivate and supervise team members. The assistant store manager will handle company culture, merchandising, shrink control, and operational aspects.
A successful assistant store manager will be knowledgeable of the local market, customers, seasonality, competitors, and other local factors that influence business. They are a role model, leader, problem‑solver, and strategic thinker who can manage time to achieve budgeted goals. The assistant store manager helps the store manager drive sales and profits through merchandising, inventory management, expense control, human resource management, and operating‑cost control.

- Assist the store manager in promoting an aggressive sales culture with a focus on superior customer service.
- Maintain a highly motivated team by assisting with hiring, coaching, counseling, disciplining, and firing; planning, monitoring, and evaluating job results.
- Maintain professionalism and positive store morale.
- Assume responsibility for the execution and performance of all store job responsibilities through key associates or own actions.
- Complete store operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.
- Provide feedback to buyers, district managers, and other company officials.
- Achieve financial objectives by aiding the store manager in budget preparation, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
- Identify current and future customer requirements by establishing rapport with current and potential customers.
- Establish relationships and support local community groups in line with company values.
- Solicit customers to sign up for Family Farm and Home programs (loyalty program, extended warranties, financing, item of the month).
- Manage and protect all inventory and company assets against theft and damage.
- Verify merchandise receipt, storage, and merchandising in all departments according to operational and safety procedures.
- Protect team members and customers by maintaining a safe and clean store environment and complying with legal requirements.
- Assist the store manager in determining marketing strategy changes by reviewing operating and financial statements and departmental sales records.
- Assist the store manager in maintaining consistent operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing operational and personnel policies and procedures.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the store manager or company official.
A successful assistant store manager must demonstrate excellent leadership and problem‑solving skills, manage with limited supervision, and communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and associates. They must be aggressive in customer service, team‑oriented, and possess strong management and organizational skills. They must understand and interpret data presented in statistical or numerical form and use it effectively to coordinate merchandise and operational aspects of store operations.
The role requires detail orientation, the ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment, and the physical capability to stand for extended periods, move and handle boxes of merchandise, climb ladders, reach, bend, twist, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs. A flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, is required.
