Job Responsibilities

Roles and responsibilities of a Retrofit Installer include:

  • Responsible to install or retrofit on site weatherization, rehab and minor home repair measures, for example, installation of insulation and dryer vents, doors and windows replacement, etc.
  • Interprets the scope of work and specific measures as set forth in the work order and other sources with direction from the Crew Leader.
  • Responsible to keep the job site safe and clean.
  • Responsible to care and pick up the equipment used to complete the job.
  • Communicates with client through home repair processes to assure the client of the energy saving measures for the home are being completed.
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures on the job site and identifies any potential hazards that may occur during work installation and works with the Crew Leader to determine a plan to avoid them.
  • Responsible for adherence to safety protocols and code compliance.
  • Adheres to safety responsibilities and attends safety meetings.
  • Assists in meeting all program and agency reporting requirements.
  • Assists in communication and paperwork requirements for housing projects.
  • Attends seminars and receive training when required.
  • Complies with Agency’s Mission, Core Values and Culture statements.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements

Regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear. Frequently required to reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to stand, bend, and walk. Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Must have the ability to travel in motor vehicle and/or other forms of transportation for hours at a time and have physical mobility to move around airports as well as in and out of motor vehicles. Must have the ability to bend, stoop, squat and twist at waist, climb up and down ladders, and maneuver in small and enclosed areas.

Qualifications

& Education

Education: HS diploma or GED required and must have or be able to obtain all certifications for Retrofit Installer as provided by the Department of Health and Human Services.

Experience: Between one and three years of construction, remodeling or relevant experience preferred.

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationship with staff, clients and contractors of various education and cultural backgrounds.
  • Work with staff to resolve conflict in an appropriate “problem solving” manner beneficial to all concerned and the agency as a whole.
  • Ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with the public; managers and staff.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Participate in all required Community Action program meetings.
  • Must possess organizational skills as required.
  • Ability to multi task and prioritize job duties and functions.
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance and punctuality based on designated work schedule.
Certification or Licensure
  • A valid driver’s license and a driving record compliant with Community Action’s insurance carrier requirements.
  • Retrofit Installer certification as provided by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services BCAEO or obtained within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Indoor Air Quality and Lead Safe Workplace and Mobile Home Weatherization certification as provided by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services BCAEO or obtained within six (6) months of hire date.
  • EPA LRRP course within six (6) months of hire date.
