Special Education Certified Teacher
USD 508-Baxter Middle/High School (4-day school week)
Inclusion/Resource Special Education Teacher for Grades 7-9 )
PurposeThe Special Education Teacher is an instructor of students with special needs and collaborates to develop individualized education plans and services. The teacher works closely with students, parents, general and special education staff, and administration.

Qualifications- Appropriate current state licensure or ability to obtain a waiver.
- Support an optimal learning environment in all educational settings.
- Professionalism in the workplace.
- Experience or understanding of the essential functions of a special education teacher, including knowledge of best practices in teaching, IEP writing, and familiarity with procedural due process.
- Knowledge of building-level special education programs and activities conforming to federal, state, and Interlocal guidelines.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, para educators, related service providers, general education providers, and district and special education administrative staff.
- Ability to collaborate with public and private agencies, community organizations, and general education providers.
- Good time management and flexibility in scheduling.
- Support the mission and goals of SEK Interlocal #637.
- Prolonged sitting or standing; occasional exertion to move heavy objects.
- Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
- Some travel required.
- Work indoors and outdoors year-round; may be in noisy and crowded environments.
- Observe, record, and report student behavior.
- Assist students with remedial work.
- Monitor student progress.
- Use behavior management techniques to maintain a positive learning climate.
- Motivate students through effective communication and feedback.
- Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships.
- Escort/transport students to and from various facilities as needed.
- Provide daily feeding/mealtime supervision, toileting, and hygiene care as needed.
- Grade papers and keep records; take attendance.
- Prepare instructional materials and supplies.
- Attend staffing and general staff meetings as requested.
- Assist in maintenance and inventory of materials.
- Work effectively with students, teachers, parents, community agencies, and other groups.
- Safeguard confidential information and observe confidentiality requirements.
- Immediately report accidents, assaults, destruction of property, and abusive behavior to appropriate staff/administration.
- Adhere to the required program and district/Interlocal policies.
- Keep abreast of new information, ideas, and techniques.
- Adhere to health and safety policies, including Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Respond positively to changes in duties.
