Job Purpose
Perform sanitation tasks from the Master Sanitation Checklist. Tasks include cleaning inside equipment and at heights, and require use of chemicals, tools, and equipment requiring specific and specialized training. Perform daily cleaning tasks as assigned by operations. Keep the plant in a condition that maintains a standard approved by Alphia and Good Manufacturing Practices.
Description of Essential Duties- Complete tasks from Master Sanitation Checklist that are assigned to the plant Food Safety Team specifically because of the in‑depth and detail cleaning required. These tasks include but are not limited to cleaning inside dryers, bucket elevators, and coating and cooling equipment
- Use and operate standard cleaning equipment such as vacuums, brooms, scrapers and brushes
- Operate semi‑complex to complex cleaning and sanitization equipment including the Hotsy, steam hoses, foaming equipment, floor scrubber, Cold Jet, and other equipment purchased for use in sanitation
- Safely and effectively prepare and use industrial strength cleaning and sanitization chemicals
- Inspect for, recognize, report and correct conditions or presence of stored product pests – insects, rodents, and birds
- Monitor production cleaning equipment for repair or replacement and notify the Food Safety Lead if items are needed
- Perform minor maintenance on cleaning equipment such as cleaning rubber gaskets, replacing filters, checking lubricant level
- Work with Maintenance and Supervisor to identify potential line improvements
- Safely operate forklift and skid loader to accomplish sanitation tasks; must be able to obtain Alphia certification
- Must complete required paperwork accurately and completely
- Acknowledge and adhere to the requirement to use appropriate microbial control measures when entering and/or exiting designated areas
- Know and monitor HACCP compliance in‑process
- Understand and follow good cleaning practices that prevent secondary microbial contamination of equipment and facility, and are designed to eliminate existing microbial populations
- Accountable for personal safety, behavior, and performance
- Responsible for following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), as well as following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Participate in full‑facility and equipment clean‑up as directed
- Perform housekeeping/ janitorial tasks in plant when needed
- Responsible for maintaining a clean and organized work area
- Responsible to follow established procedures to ensure that Alphia, Inc. produces safe, quality food, meeting all governmental regulations
- Perform other duties as required or directed
- High School Diploma / GED preferred
- Food Safety, sanitation and/or housekeeping experience preferred
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, and percentages
- Willing to work in a team environment and contribute to group goals
- Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in written form, and via radio
- Ability to receive and provide instructions in a positive manner
- Ability to obtain Alphia Lock Out / Tag Out certification
- Ability to obtain Alphia Forklift certification
- Ability to multi‑task
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, walk, and move from place to place. The employee is occasionally required to sit, use foot/feet to operate machine, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, or reach above shoulders. The employee is frequently required to stand and use hands to finger, handle or touch. The employee must be able to climb stairs and ladders.
The employee must exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The employee may be frequently exposed to allergens and/or airborne particles in the production area. Production employees are exposed to temperatures ranging from 0 to 115 degrees, depending on the season and workstation, and may be working near moving mechanical parts. Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions may occur. Work 12‑hour day or night shifts, 80 hours/pay period. The noise level in the work environment may be loud while production equipment is running.
Personal Protection Equipment (including, but not limited to, boots, gloves, safety glasses, and/or face shields) is required during various processes in the production area. Ear plugs and bump caps are required at all times in the production area.
