The instructional coach uses job-embedded professional development and coaching to implement effective school wide instructional practices in academics and/or Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). The role supports the implementation of Anchorage School District adopted curriculum and resources and may include a flexible work calendar with time off during summer, winter, or spring breaks, mutually agreed upon with the supervisor.

Responsibilities include collaborating with principals, school staff, teacher experts, and district-based departments to build effective practices and systems, facilitating professional development, and supporting district-adopted initiatives. This position supplements district guidance and support.

The following are required:

• A valid Alaska initial, professional, or master teaching certificate
• Educators teaching in Kindergarten through 3rd grade must meet Alaska Reads Act requirements
• Three (3) or more years of successful elementary school teaching
• Strong oral and written communication skills

The following are preferred:

• Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, including giving and receiving constructive feedback
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with teachers and administrators
• Experience in development, preparation, and presentation of professional development in various formats
• Experience in adult learning theory, coaching, and mentoring
• Experience using district, student, and site-level data to differentiate instruction and meet individual student needs
• Knowledge and experience in research-based instructional design and positive behavior support

• Engage instructional staff in collaborative reflection on the impact of instructional and behavior support practices
• Co-plan, provide support, and brainstorm ways to apply professional development learning
• Foster a positive, predictable, safe learning environment
• Lead school-based professional development and assist with implementation of MTSS and district initiatives
• Support collaboration, professional learning communities, and the transfer of learning into practice
• Communicate district and school initiatives to the school community
• Monitor goal setting and support the integration of district initiatives through MTSS
• Analyze data to inform instruction and behavior support practices
• Facilitate data-informed conversations and use of ASD’s assessment system
• Support teachers in curriculum implementation, assessments, and standards alignment

Learner mindset: continuously learn to stay current with district-approved practices and programs. Engage in professional development and reading to enhance coaching effectiveness and practice reflection.

Frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Visual requirements and the ability to lift items weighing up to 40 lbs occasionally. Ability to understand instructions, recall facts, handle conflict, and work under pressure in a diverse environment. Reasonable accommodations are available as required by law.

Professional environment with diverse individuals. May be exposed to video displays and outdoor weather. Noise level is typically moderate.
