transportation generalist responsibilities
  • obtain representative samples of bituminous, concrete, aggregate, grading and base materials and perform appropriate tests to ensure quality assurance.
  • perform construction materials acceptance tests (gradations, density, air, beam, cylinder and slump) in the field as required.
  • read and interpret plans and specifications to ensure contractor compliance.
  • check dimensions and tolerances of constructed roadway features to ensure conformance to plans and specifications.
  • measure, compute and document pay items to ensure proper payment for work under the contract.
  • perform and implement inspection processes so that test failures are corrected.
  • monitor the work of contractor personnel to ensure compliance with established processes, practices and specifications.
  • assist the plant monitor to ensure materials meet specifications and requirements.
transportation generalist: snow & ice duties
  • maintain roadways for snow and ice control.
  • prepare and inspect winter equipment.
  • perform preseason snow route inspection and post‑storm cleanup.
  • set up winter stockpile and transfer anti‑icing and de‑icing chemicals.
  • maintain documentation on snow and ice data for accurate reporting of inventory and resource management.
  • perform traffic control set‑ups or provide notification to dispatch of disabled vehicles.
transportation associate responsibilities
  • learn to perform field testing of construction materials to ensure accurate, timely and thorough tests according to specification.
