SUMMARY

The GSRP associate teacher teaches preschool school subjects to students within the Great Start Readiness Preschool (GSRP) Program. The work week consists of M‑Th 8:30 AM‑4:00 PM, and four (4) hours on Fridays.

The individual will be an Imlay City Schools staff member contracted through Genesee Education Consultant Services (GECS).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties as assigned.

  • Willingness to complete 16 clock hours of annual training for professional development. This training is independently obtained by the employee in the position.
  • Current certification in infant, child, and adult CPR and first aid.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Possess good organization and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, parents, and colleagues.
  • Independent and willing to work with energy and passion.
  • Willing to engage with preschool‑aged children in a warm, positive, and nurturing demeanor.
  • Planning and executing a variety of activities for preschool‑aged children; both academic and social.
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administration regulations.
  • Available to students and parents for education related purposes outside of the instructional day as needed.
  • Plan and coordinate, where appropriate, the work of Para pros, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
  • Attend mandatory monthly early childhood meetings at the county level, yearly meetings at the district level, and building‑wide professional development.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Possess one of the following requirements:

  • An associate’s degree (AA) in early childhood education or child development or the equivalent; or
  • A valid classroom CDA credential.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Must receive background check clearance from the State of Michigan as required by law. The candidate is responsible for the background fee costs.
LANGUAGE SKILLS

Applicants will be expected to have the ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Applicants will be expected to have the ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to staff, parents, students and administrators. Individual fluent in Spanish preferred.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee needs to be able to tell where a sound is coming from and hear in a noisy environment.

The employee must be able to transfer and/or lift a small adult. The employee must have the ability to perform cleaning of toileting accidents that may occur due to the age of participants in the program. The employee must hold and be willing to maintain valid CPR certification.
