Environmental Health and Safety Technician
Reports to:
EHS Manager
- Assist EHS Manager in maintaining and improving regulatory requirements in accordance with MIOSHA (OSHA) and EGLE (EPA). This position will be a mixture of 65% office and 35% industrial experience.
- Conduct regular safety inspections of work areas, equipment, and processes to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Review and maintain procedures and policies in accordance with local, state, and federal requirements i.e. control of hazardous energy, confined space, etc.
- Support safety training programs – helping deliver toolbox talks, onboarding sessions, and refresher courses.
- Develop, coordinate and present safety committee meetings monthly.
- Coordinate industrial hygiene testing annually for both hearing and respiratory protection.
- Monitor and maintain safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist in incident investigations, documenting findings, and supporting root cause analysis.
- Coordinate and conduct safety and environmental inspections.
- Assist in maintenance of applicable environmental and safety machinery.
- Technical ability to make decisions and improvements.
- Find and implement systematic improvements.
3+ years of experience in a safety, environmental, or industrial role (manufacturing, construction, or similar environment preferred). Must be self‑motivated and have strong interpersonal and written communication skills. Must be able to wear a respirator and other appropriate protective equipment.
Skills- Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Understanding of MIOSHA and EGLE Standards
- Experience in (or a combination of) Air Permitting (Scrubbers & Dust Collectors), Sewer Treatment, Stormwater, Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Waste handling
- Employee training abilities
- Technical writing
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to achieve certification of Stormwater Operator and DOT/RCRA Hazardous Waste Management
- Continual learner with proactive mindset
- Chemical experience
- Industrial sampling experience preferred
- Risk Management Plan experience is a plus
