JOB SUMMARY

Directs and coordinates the design and engineering of company products utilizing technical knowledge of mechanical engineering processes and advanced product technology. While working closely with customers, vendors, and other departments, focuses the engineering efforts of the Engineering Department to ensure strict adherence to customer and company standards and specifications. Directs engineering activities in keeping with effective operations, schedules, and cost factors.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS
  • Works closely with the Applications Engineering Department during concept and at the commencement of engineering projects concerning the viability and appropriateness of general design direction, machine function, engineering cost, and time schedules to ensure timely and efficient completion of customer projects at the highest quality possible within cost containment parameters.
  • Works closely with and focuses the Mechanical Engineering Department concerning realistic plans for execution of engineering projects within time and cost constraints, giving consideration to Research and Development lab support, sequence of operations, outside engineering support, and other similar factors.
  • Provides critical concept designs and calculations to Project Engineers and Mechanical Designers so that projects are coordinated and engineered efficiently. Consults with the Controls Engineering Department during concept design to ensure viability of properly control and programming.
  • Reviews and approves all mechanical engineering work processed through the Mechanical Engineering Department.
  • Acts as liaison between customers and the Engineering Department when problems arise during machine manufacture or testing, as well as in customer facilities during installation, start-up, and/or debugging operations.
  • Assists in the coordination of work between the Mechanical Engineering Department and the Manufacturing Department to maximize efficiencies between departments.
  • Assists the Manufacturing Department with any manufacturing, assembly, or functional issues that arise.
  • Provides input and suggestions to the Mechanical Engineering Manager on internal and external performance and improvement.
  • Responsible for maintaining engineering operations that are consistent with RWC Standards and Procedures.
OTHER FUNCTIONS OR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists in the technical administration of outside engineering subcontractors to assure timely and cost-effective execution of specified projects.
  • Trains and mentors junior engineers relative to critical analysis of machine design, project costs, scheduling conflicts, and other matters affecting the delivery of machinery meeting all appropriate specifications within quoted pricing.
  • Makes recommendations for improvement to technical standards and processes within the Engineering Department.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • A level of technical knowledge normally associated with completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of ten years of related experience in a machine design/engineering environment and can demonstrate experience with automated assembly equipment, resistance welding equipment, and metal forming equipment.
  • Administrative and organizational skills sufficient to work on several complex projects simultaneously in order to meet customer requirements.
  • Analytical ability sufficient to devise and help implement appropriate and effective suggestions to improve the engineering department related to technical efforts.
  • Interpersonal and supervisory skills sufficient to effectively direct a diverse group of skilled and semi-skilled employees, customers, vendors, office employees, and other managers, often under stressful situations.
  • Ability to work using computers and adapt to the applicable software.
  • Ability to work efficiently with AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS software.
  • Must be able to work in a teamwork environment.
  • Domestic and international travel, including air and ground travel.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
  • Reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager.
