Position Summary
Under general supervision, repairs, installs, adjusts, monitors, and maintains building HVAC/R, plumbing, and electrical systems and performs skilled maintenance and repair tasks of the hospital building systems. Performs work to conform to quality standards and municipal codes. Leads projects and teams ensuring work is completed as scheduled.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Troubleshoots electrical, electronic (including analog and digital), pneumatic, and mechanical equipment and systems.
- Performs operator and preventive maintenance, as specified by manufacturers, on equipment and systems including electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and mechanical; varies preventive maintenance interval as dictated by monitored failure rate.
- Performs simple, as well as complete repairs of equipment and systems, as appropriate.
- Researches, interprets and applies local, as well as manufacturers’ technical data; reads and interprets engineering drawings and specifications.
- Maintains appropriate work records for compliance with requirements imposed by such entities as:
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, State-wide Healthcare Planning and Development Office, and National Fire Protection Agency. - Completes work orders, records material utilized on jobs and other required documentation.
- May also perform general maintenance and repair tasks as required.
- Performs other related duties as required and directed.
- Assists in quality control and performance improvement activities.
- Contributes to performance feedback, hiring decisions.
- Ensures standards are met (quality, timeliness, customer service, etc.).
- Evaluates and tests new procedures/processes.
- Orients and/or trains new staff.
- Problem solving capabilities.
- Subject matter expert/technical leadership.
- Work flow/distribution of work.
- Assists in assuring compliance with all regulatory and other agency requirements, laws, and statutes pertaining to the operation of the department.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five years of related experience.
- Valid state driver's license.
- Driving record must be within the approved insurance company’s regulations.
- Previous experience in health care industry.
- Associate degree in applied technology or other related field.
- JCAHO certified license for Health Care Mechanic.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and policy and procedures manuals.
- Demonstrated ability to trouble shoot and repair systems in a timely manner.
- Demonstrated skill to accurately estimate time and materials in a project.
- Knowledge of organizational and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in patient and personnel communications.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with people at various levels in a courteous, tactful and poised manner.
